Re:- Complaint Against Four Officials of the Administration

From:

1. Citizens For Justice & Peace,

2. Communalism Combat

Office at “Nirant”, Juhu Tara Road,

Juhu, Mumbai.

Dear Mr. Lyngdoh,

This is an urgent and specific complaint received by us from our vast network in the state. It pertains to the continued tenure of four officials of the Collectorate of Ahmedabad that is likely to have a serious bearing on the conduct of free and fair elections in the state, a matter or urgent concern.

The officials concerned are 1) Manoj Macwana, deputy collector, from Vidhan Sabha no.73, Electoral roll 61 [Rakhial]. Our information has it that 4,000 underage Dalit youth have been enrolled as voters on this list. We have also received valuable information suggesting that he enjoys the express support of Maya Kotdani, a BJP MLA who has been indicted in th recent violence in  Naroda and also in Sundaramnagar. While we realise that this information may not be entirely accurate, we thought it is our duty to bring it to your notice so that suitable action may be taken by the office of the EC. Secondly, Manoj Patariya, deputy collector Naroda too has been serving his present tenure for over four years and also enjoys the support of Maya Kotdani. Thirdly, Gaurav Prajapati, deputy collector, Ahmedabad city has also served over four years and is also indicted of actually perpetrating  violence.

We urge you to take cognisance of this and ensure that action is taken in the interests of free and fair elections in the state. May we take the liberty of stating here how much the upright and steadfast role played by the EC in recent months, be it in Gujarat or Jammu and Kashmir, has helped sustain our faith in Indian democracy??

Yours sincerely,

Teesta Setalvad                      Rais Khan

Dear Mr. Mitra,

We had made an urgent and specific complaint received by us from our vast network in the state.

Despite this complaint we are disturbed to find that Mr Manoj Macwana’s name has been announced as the retaining officer, at rom number 101 Rakhial, B.J.Prajapati the city deputy collector as retaining officer at room no 202 Ellisbridge.

Dear Mr. Mitra,

We have also received direct complaints about the location of polling booths.

We request you to change below polling booths which are in sensitive areas of Shahpur :

Booth               Recent Polling Booth                            Suggested Polling Booth

If the locations of these booths are not shifted, there is a very real danger that many vulnerable sections of the population will be actively prevented from exercising their democratic right to vote.

We urge therefore that the EC does something about these both these issues.

Thanking You,

Yours sincerely,

Teesta Setalvad                        Rais Khan
