We invite you to a press briefing
on an important initiative for Mumbai.
Starting on September 3, 2005, a panel set up by the Concerned Citizens’
Commission to enquire into the Mumbai Floods will preside over a series
of public hearings and depositions involving members of the public as
well as those at different levels of the government administration. The
prime aim will be to inquire into the causes that led to the collapse of
the city’s administration resulting in such a grave danger to lives and
property. A wide variety of people’s groups have endorsed this
initiative and will participate in the hearings.
The panel involves several eminent
citizens: Justice PB Sawant, Retd. Supreme Court Judge (Chairman), Ms.
Teesta Setalvad (Citizens for Justice and Peace), Mr. Shyam Chainani
(Bombay Environmental Action Group), Mr. Sharad Kale (Former Municipal
Commissioner of Mumbai), Mr. Nasser Munjee (Expert on Urban
Infrastructure), Mr. Darryl D’Monte (Environmental Journalist), Mr.
Chandrashekhar Prabhu (Architect & Town Planner), Mr. Datta Ishwalkar (Girni
Kamgar Sangharsh Samiti) and Mr. Suresh Bhosale, (General Secretary,
Friends of Society).
Members of the press are invited to meet and interact with the panel. A
schedule of hearings will also be made available to the media.
